Activities and Projects

Members of The New York State Society of the Cincinnati involve themselves in a number of activities throughout the year.  These include both educational and historical celebrations in the state of New York as well as on a national level.  In addition, the society supports historical research and preservation with specific projects.  In recent days, these efforts have included:

  1. The publication of a major book, New York State Society of the Cincinnati Biographies of Original Members and Other Continental Officers by Francis Sypher, Jr. , a project that involved extensive original research into the lives of 475 New York officers who held Continental Commissions in the American Revolution.  This important work will provide future historians with information never before available in one volume, concerning that period and the men who helped to shape the first years of the United States.

  2. The publication of Histories of New York Regiments of the Continental Army by Francis J. Sypher, Jr. This is the planned companion work to Biographies (see above), which will record the histories of the several New York regiments and associated units in the American Revolution.

  3. The annual financial support for the upkeep and development of the grounds and building of historic Mount Gulian, the birthplace of the Society of the Cincinnati.

  4. The Financial and in-kind contributions for the Cincinnati Room at Mount Gulian, a special museum area dedicated to telling the history of the Cincinnati with words, pictures and historical artifacts.

  5. The sponsorship of a New York Cincinnati Professor, funding research and writings dealing with the Revolution.

  6. Financial support for the New York Genealogical and Biographical Society.

  7. The annual presentation of a US Army saber to the winning cadet at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point.  This special award is made each year by a member of the society.

  8. The annual participation of member Cincinnati in the Flag Day parade in New York City.

  9. Annual support of the General Society of the Cincinnati, both as individual members and as a society.

  10. Support for and participation in special events of a related nature, such as the "March to Yorktown".
